This evening a massive storm blew up from south central Washington and livened up the dinner hour. The sky rocked with thunder and the clouds flashed that unmistakably brilliant blue-white lightning back and forth like a tennis match on steroids. Yes, it was quite a show. Throw in a little wind, several quick and sporadic downpours, a blast of dazzling sunshine and a faint rainbow etched against another wave of black rain-laden clouds, and wow, what an evening! But it was finished by 8:30pm, a half hour before sunset and a long twilight. Golden rays filtered through the fir trees, an evening dampness settled in, and everything seemed to return to normal again. Birds popped out from their hiding places to sing a little and entertain us with their antics in the bird baths. A dog woofed in the distance -- probably at the deer emerging to see whose garden they could invade and quietly trample overnight. All in all the storm had passed with nothing scary or tragically dramatic. Just an old fashioned "thunder-boomer" and it was gone.
So, in honor of this spectacular, but safe storm, I hereby bestow upon it the Sunflower Ranch Eiffel Tower Lightning Award of Excellence. This is only the second time I have done this. Click here to read the initial award presentation.

Wow I love storms especially with thunder and lightning. There's something so majestic about storms. I guess it's because they are totally out of our control.
Loree!! Yes, I think that's got to be it -- the chaos, the danger, and the fear that zips through you when you see the lightning and feel the thunder in your bones.
This morning the Weather service has more isolated T-storms predicted for later in the day. They don't always materialize, but who knows? It really means get the outside work done before they start! I guess I have another busy day ahead! :D
We have the infamous isolated thunder storms predicted for the entire weekend, yard work yesterday and more today.
I love a really good storm, the power is awesome.
Still thinking about the Writer's Challenge, I'll be back later.
Have a wonderful day,
SQ
SQ!! Thanks for dropping by this morning -- what a day! No thunder here today & that's a relief! We had a mix up on hubby's doctor appt but she worked him in and that kind of threw the whole day off. LOL And I had to get some yard work done -- finally got a chance to get caught up tonight!! One of those days. I hope your T-storms were not too scary -- but just a little bit maybe...LOL
Have a wonderful weekend! :D
I see many of these storms daily in Florida. The lightning is incredible.Love the blog by the way, and thanks for visiting Friends Revolution.
Dr. Lauren!! Florida -- you are right in the middle of the best lightning in the entire country! Scary but thrilling especially if you're not caught outside when one strikes. But such power, such majesty! Wow, now that's a thrill that goes right through your whole being.
Thanks for your kind words about the blog and for visiting today! :D
Shattering Light strikes bright,
My heart leaps in endless delight,
Mesmerized while the mischief builds,
In love I am to chase the hills and
catch the bolt! A thundering thrill!
I love a great storm and if odds are so against us being hit by the light, I chase it most times. ;)
Izzy!! Wow, what a neat poem!! I love it!! The next time we have a storm I shall think of it!! :D
One thing my sis likes to do is go the local Wendy's, get a Frosty and sit in the parking lot overlooking the valley to watch the storm. This valley is to our east and Mt. Rainier is right behind it with the Cascades, where most of our storms come from. She insists Hubby and I drive over and join her and the family. We'd sit in the back of the car, but you can see better from the front seat, so we'll go in our own car. [No, not the convertible!!!]
I will report on that event -- if we do it. I'm just a bit scared about running from the house to the car during a really bad storm. But that's when it's best to experience. Conflicted here. LOL
Watch for the next time I present the Eiffel Tower Lightning Award. If I'm brave & make it, I'll report on it. :D
