...writer's challenge #9...
Writers, your challenge is to write a story, poem, play, article, report, micro-blog -- something -- anything -- about this picture. You may write your piece to any length, as long as it doesn't exceed 50 words. The shorter the better, of course. If you want to write a Twitter length story, give it a whirl but don't exceed 140 characters.
Try your hand at micro/flash work and feel free to post as many tiny pieces as you'd like in the Comment section below. Your work is yours, you own the copyright -- we're just making a spot available for you to share your creativity with the Sunflower Ranch visitors. You can experiment here and tweet them or post them or even use them as seeds for longer, more involved work.
Let's have some fun and start the weekend with a new little activity to spark your imagination. May you be inspired to make your writing soar and produce some wonderful work! Check out last week's Writer's Challenge and add your interpretation of the photo there as well.
Your comments are always welcome, too!

As she looked beyond the fields, hope rose with the sun. The sky filled with warmth and embraced her. She had cheated death and this was the sign of life.
Glory be to the Heavens!! Who could NOT believe in a Creator??
Billy Bob, where is your pickup?
What do we need the pickup for Harley?
Don't you see that light over there?
Yep!
Dang, Billy Bob, weren't you listening when I told you I saw that UFO crash? Get your pickup and let's go catch us some of them there aliens!

She sat in absolute despair as the sun dropped toward the horizon, taking hope with it into the dark of night.
"If there is a god, or anything that passes for a higher power, show me a sign. Anything. I need to believe in miracles." It was a silent plea, torn from her heart, but she had no real belief that her son would be found. Only a stubborn hope rooted in love itself.
She cried then, sobbed. When the phone rang, she opened her eyes and found the heavens had answered.
Saundra M!!!! Wow!! Excellent mini-story!!! You've painted an emotional portrait of the despair this woman is experiencing. Thank you so much for dropping by the Ranch and contributing your work. I really appreciate it! I post a new Challenge every Friday, so I do hope you'll stop in again to add your thoughts. [Or anytime!!] Thanks a bunch! :D
Sunflower, thank you for your kind words! I figured I had overreached the word limit -- which to my chagrin, I read the requested specs closely after I commented! LOL
Saundra!! That's perfectly OK! That's why it's a Challenge -- and for anyone to write a short piece off the cuff with little or no deep editing -- it's wonderful and I'm not going to ding anyone for a few extra words. In fact, I'd love to see everyone who takes any of the challenges incorporate something of what they have written into one of their current or future projects. It's all fodder for creation. Thanks for your lovely post the other day -- and for dropping by again! :D
Title: Depression's Death
A haiku by Lois Eighmy
The sun's rays burst forth,
causing my depression to
vanish with their light.
LM!!! Beautiful!! Very uplifting! I love the implied spirituality, too. [Who made the sun rise? Who lifted my depression?] Thank you so much for sharing this lovely haiku!! :D
Beginning lines for a short story:
Dexter was a strange, and silly, kid. He told everybody, "On that day I saw those four fingers of luminosity in the sky, I knew that something, or someone, was reaching out to me."
William!! What a delightful opening!! I see a nice bit of sweet humor and a huge possibility in this snippet. I do hope you develop it and have much success with your final product! Thanks for your contribution and for bringing a much needed smile this morning!! :D
