Happy Lunar New Year!

MistyMisty

Misty isn't a tiger, but she wishes you and yours a very happy and most auspicious Lunar New Year! It's the Year of the Tiger! Every tiger [like yours truly] is looking forward to a fantastic year ahead. Of course all the animals of Chinese astrology have special new challenges and successes to look forward to in the new year, as well.

3 coins tied together for prosperity luckFor immediate good luck in the new year, hang three antique Chinese coins tied together with red string or ribbon on the inside of the main door into your home. Of course, these "antique coins" can also be imitation coins and of no monetary value, easily found at any Chinese emporium or even at your favorite dollar store.

It's excellent feng shui as the symbol of holding onto your wealth and inviting new wealth into your home and the perfect way to begin a new year. Try it -- you'll be very surprised at how easily it works! And more to the point, it's Misty approved, too! LOL

During this fantastic 15-day holiday, get out and about and enjoy your favorite Chinese or Asian meal, play Mahjong, shop for a unique Chinese gift, wear new clothes from head to toe, and be sure to wear red to symbolize good fortune and to scare away evil spirits. Why not throw a big noisy party with lots of delicious food, music, and old fashioned games of chance? It's one of the best family friendly holidays you can enjoy and a great way to meet your neighbors. Just make sure the kids don't handle the firecrackers when you chase away the old spirits to cleanse the atmosphere for the year's new prosperity to come rushing in!

Have a great Lunar New Year celebration and enjoy the coming Year of the Tiger. "Gung hee fatt choi!"

Thanks so much for visiting!

Thanks for the reminder! I must send my Chinese sister-in-law happy new year's wishes! She always gets us little trinkets from Chinatown in NYC where they live, wonder what she'll bring us in this Year of the Tiger!?

SQ!! Misty says hello, in her gurgly "little tiger" purr. I hope you had a great start to your Lunar New Year celebrations! And also a Happy Valentine's Day! It's good to be back. Lots to share! :D

Fly!! We are lucky to have a rich Asian community here in the Seattle-Tacoma area, and actually all of Western Washington. It's not as extensive as California, but close, with Asian businesses and professionals in all cities, towns, and hamlets. I love the friendly mix of cultures we are blessed with here. It would be hard for me to pick just one culture -- I love them all, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Viet Namese. They have so enriched my view of the world. But of course, if I lived in Europe, I would love the variety I know I would find there, too! LOL Thanks so much for stopping by. See you soon! :D

Kate!! I hope your sister-in-law finds just the right remembrance of the Year of the Tiger! I would love to be in Chinatown for Lunar New Year. I bet it was fun! Seattle had a parade with a lot of dancers and music and of course the food was out of this world! Enjoy your special gift from Chinatown & the rest of the New Year celebration! :D

SG!! It's great to be back! You can find your Chinese animal by clicking on the "Chinese astrology" link in the post. Scroll down to the chart, find your birthday and read across to the animal column. Since the new year begins in February, only people whose birthdays are in February have to be careful. They could be in the tail end of the previous year. Just check your birthdate. Everyone born in that year is the same animal, unlike Western astrology where each month [or so] is different. Once you know your animal sign, your special year will pop up every 12 years. It's funny, but I have met many Tigers recently, though we are all born in different years. Good luck and have some fun! :D
