Rainier Cherries: Food of the Heavens

Rainier cherriesRainier cherries

Vegetables are the food of the earth;
fruit seems more the food of the heavens.
~Sepal Felicivant
And the sweetest fruit you'll find in your grocery store right now might just be the Rainier cherry. I have mentioned them before as being my favorite summer fruit -- and this year is no exception. They're only available for a short time in early summer. Their rarity makes them all the more desirable.

Locally they are priced as low as $1.98 a pound. Elsewhere around the country they are priced usually between $5 and $7 a pound. In Japan they cost about $1 apiece. But price should be no object if you love cherries and have never tried these. Buy a small bag and chill them for a short time, rinse and drain. Then dive in!!

I hope one year we'll be visiting friends in the U.S. and will be able to try them...I'll have to get the visiting dates right!

Fly!! I am so happy to learn you are planning a trip to the USA!! I hope it coincides with the Rainier cherry season! But wherever you go in this great country, I do hope you can sample many of the local foods at their peak. I would also suggest attending a major league baseball game and visit small [local] history museums. If you'll be in a particular region of the country, go everywhere & see & do as much as you can for the richest experience. Every region, every state, and every city has something unique to offer. Some things will be familiar to you -- some totally alien. That's the fun of traveling, though! I hope you have a fantastic visit!!! :D

We're trying to arrange dates...but it will all depend on how Mr. Fly is..we can never make long term arrangements...just loose one so we can tie a knot in the reins if they break and carry on!

We'll take your advice, though, in any case.

Fly!! I understand completely about the planning. I hope all will be well for Mr. Fly and your trip can go through without any problems before, during or after you return home.

Do let me know if there is anything I can do to help make your trip as enjoyable as possible!
